Ridiculous amount of steps, Roller Derby, Raffles and Really great friends!

What a busy and Fun weekend I had what did you get up to?

As I posted in my last post I was going to Roller Derby this weekend, but before we were to head off on our roller fun night we (Being, Myself, F & K) decided we would do the 1000 steps. K and F have done it a fair few times but Me – Never! I wasn’t really sure what to expect other than lots of steps.

Well we set off from the car pack and made our way up to the steps, already my heart rate was up and my calf muscles were tight from doing the stepper at the gym the day before (probably not a great idea now looking back), anyway we were walking upwards for what seemed like 5 minutes or so and still no steps but were were climbing higher and there appeared to be every so often these little mounds that you walk over, I said to the girls “Are these mounds that we are walking over are these the steps?” to which the reply was “No they are just up a bit further” OH CRAP, I was thinking, what have I gotten myself into?????

We got to the steps and started making our way up I decided I would try and keep up with the girls as much as I could but I wasn’t going to over do it. They started off ok but gradually got harder and harder and we did end up stopping about 3 times, in the last section F pulled right ahead and K wasn’t far behind, I knew there wasn’t much more to go (as those annoyingly fit people coming down kept telling me) so I just kept going and made it to the top a little over 30 minutes I believe. I was pretty happy with myself once I had finally caught my breath. What a great work out! I was dripping in sweat and my heart was beating out my chest but I felt great! We didn’t walk back down the steps but chose to walk down another path to the bottom, it was still pretty steep, but much easier than walking up those steps!! They have a cafe there, but as we were on a schedule we decided not to stop for a coffee this time.

So we jumped in the car and headed back to shower and change for Roller Derby. The first bout started at 6pm and we got there around 5pm. They hold the Derby (Victorian Roller Derby League) at The show-grounds in Flemington and I did think of fellow blogger; Kath from Blurb from the Burbs as she lives in Flemington as we were driving there, wondering what she was getting up to this afternoon (if you haven’t checked her blog out, it’s great, well worth a read!!!). Anyway they hold the bout in the food pavilion near the big pie (for all you locals who know the Melbourne show-grounds) and it is fantastic there are really cute stalls selling derby merchandise and lots of Rockabilly accessory stalls plus the usual fried fatty foods (which is why I bought my own tea from home!!!! Can you believe how well behaved I am!!!) They also had free face painting and a raffle, we all bought a ticket and decided to purchase t shirts (which I promise I will post a pic soon, still having a few technical issues with the computer).

I was so excited I really didn’t know what to expect either, we sat on the floor on our comfy cushions and we were about two rows back from the front (You don’t wanna be at the front unless you are prepared to have a player possibly smash into you!). The first bout started and it was between Dolls Au Go Go (Great uniform – black shirts with gold writing and gold hot-pants with stockings or whatever the girl decides to wear oh and gold helmets!) and the Regional all stars which is made up of player from Ballarat Roller Derby League and a league from Bendigo (which I can’t remember the name of). What a fun sport, F, K and I kept picking out the cute skirts that we wanted to wear while discussing the rules (Don’t ask me!!!) and generally having a great time. The names of the players are also cool – as they have a derby name, normally something to with crushing people, or along those lines, for example there was a player called Crunch Lady Doris (taken from The Simpson’s – Lunch Lady Doris) Hmmm I wonder what my Derby name would be?

Anyway, the second bout was between Dead Ringer Rosies and Toxic Avengers (Gee I love the names!!!) They were both top level teams and it was more fast paced than before, it was a close game but in the end the Rosies took out the bout! I really am hooked now, I just love it! I think it is fabulous that only women can play, it is a rough sport but lots of fun and the outfits are so cute!!! Suffice to say I wont be signing up for Fresh Meat (if you want to play Roller Derby you sign up to become Fresh Meat and train and try out for a team) any time soon as I am not the best skater and my Britney Roller skates have only been out of their box about 3 times, LOL!!!!

Just before we ere about to leave they drew the raffle and as the audio was so shocking I couldn’t hear it clear but it sounded similar to my ticket number. well I went and checked and sure enough it was! I won the raffle!!! I can’t believe how lucky I have been lately! The prize is 4 a-reserve adult tickets to Circus Oz! Pretty exciting! I am very much looking forward to going and F and K are going to come too if they are free! Oh and of course M!!!

After Derby we headed back to K’s house to get changed ready to go out dancing. I was excited as I had bought a new top (Black tank with black sequins all over! Very sparkly) to wear, I was a bit unsure as I had tried it on with my black skinny leg jeans the day before and it looked ok, but all those steps must have paid off as it didn’t look too bad! I was driving so no drinks for me, but I didn’t mind  and I danced the night away; even K left before me!!! I dropped F home and eventually got home and into bed at about 3:30am! A very late night for me!

But what a great night I had and it was so nice to spend it with some really great friends!

Mothers day was the next day but I’m going to leave it here for now, I’ll post some more tomorrow!

Till next time….spend some time with friends

Oh and Lea I didn’t go to the gym this morning as I was sooooo tired from my Saturday, slack I know but I’m gonna go tomorrow morning, I thought I might go tonight but I have a pile of Ironing that is screaming at me, so tomorrow morning it is!!

Just before I go here is quick little pic of my boy! Enjoy!

My little man enjoying some Telly in his Thomas Book!

Back to Pilates and Happy Easter!

I actually did go to pilates last night and I am so glad Carlos was only doing three repetitions as I am aching all over today. A good thing I know but I am certainly glad that today is my rest day! I did find that I was able to do a lot more things again like in this earlier post http://tryingtobeayummymummy.wordpress.com/2010/09/21/under-80kg/  and I was able to hold some positions for longer! There is still one position that I struggle with and I can’t for the life of me find a picture of it, but basically you are lying on your side with one arm holding you up and your legs slightly tucked behind the other arm is raised in the air and using your arm strength you push up your body onto your knees. It sounds weird I’ll have to get M to take a pic of me doing it. I can do one or two but by the third one I am wrecked I guess if I keep going on a Tuesday night then I can get better!

Our computer at home is on the blink at the moment. Really not sure what is wrong with it! So I know I have been promising to post some pictures It’s going to have to wait!! Unless I can get some off facebook. Hmm will have a look into it!

Well it’s going to be easter on the weekend and I must say I am looking forward to it! The extended break is going to be awesome! M has from Friday to Tuesday off. So we both go back to work on Wednesday next week!! It is quite weird having ANZAC day intertwined with Easter, but it just means we get and extra holiday!!! This year will be the first Time P is kinda aware of the Easter Bunny so we are doing an egg hunt this year for the first time!! I am really excited as I don’t think I’ve ever done one before! The Easter Bunny just used to leave us our eggs! P definitely knows what chocolate is and he loves it!!! I can definitely see him getting stuck into the eggs before breakfast!!!

My girlfriends who I’m doing the challenge with are home at Easter too, so we have decided not to waste our weekend and catch up sometime to do the 1000 steps. Don’t ask me where they are I’ll tell you next week when I’m done.  I just looked it up (Thanks Google!) and it is in Ferntree Gully, In the Dandenong Ranges National Park. I believe it is a Kokoda walk to commemorate the trail that the Aussie Diggers took in Papua New Guinea during WWII. Unless there is some other 1000 steps! It’s actually quite fitting to do this walk this weekend since Monday will be ANZAC day (For those readers who don’t know what ANZAC day is, it is a celebration for our war veterans and is an acronym for Australian & New Zealand Army Corps. It is celebrated annually on the 25th April as that is the day that the ANZAC’s landed in Gallipoli in the First World War).

Any hoo it is getting close to my home time! I best be off! I hope you all have a very happy and safe Easter where ever you are and enjoy some easter chocolate!!

Till next time….Happy Easter!
